2010 Open House

Powder Puff Pacas and Dutchman Alpacas would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all who attended our Open House on Sunday, September 19, 2010.  It was quite a crowd!  We hope that everyone had as much fun as we did.  It appeared that the Piñata and the Tug-O-War games drew the largest crowds and loudest responses.  But many of the kids also enjoyed our rendition of “Pin the tail on the Alpaca!”  We couldn’t help but notice that the prizes were also gone from the “Scavenger Hunt” game, and all the “Activity Books” had also disappeared.  And of course, we went through several bags of carrots and then moved on to hand feeding hay to our "kids".  We take that to mean that a great time was had by all!

We’d also like to thank all of those that contributed so much of their time and effort to support all of the activities at the Open House.

The McKenney Family did a superb job of keeping everybody busy and making sure that the games kept moving.  They were instrumental in wearing out the younger set for their drive home!

I’m sure everybody enjoyed the beautiful face paintings created by Janice DeMontge. We’d seen Janice working at a previous event we attended, and we knew we had to have her at our Open House.  Have you ever seen such beautiful face paitings?

Sherry Miramonti from Smiths Creek Alpacas held down the storefront.  Talk about a busy place!!  Sherry handled sales for not only the wonderful products she carries in her store from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but she was gracious enough to help out our guests in selecting yarns and other products exclusive to Powder Puff Pacas.  The store at Smiths Creek Alpacas is open on weekends beginning November 27 through December 18, from 10:00 to 4:00.

Pam and Mark Hoffman brought their special brand of wooden, hexagonal knitting needles, all made in Michigan from Michigan trees.  What a wonderful complement to our Michigan-made alpaca yarn!

A special thanks goes to Dave Schoenherr for supplying the great food and fun at the Hot Dog Tent.  I understand he made a second trip out to get more dogs very early in the day!  We just can’t thank him enough to giving up his Sunday to come and feed all of us! AND he and my brother paid for all the food so that it was free to all our guests – that was absolutely wonderful of them.

But most of all, we want to thank my darling OLDER brother, Dick, and his whole family, Margaret, Theresa, Stephany, Kaitlynne, and Kolin, for helping with set up and teardown, manning the gates, running so many errands, and supporting us in all of our ventures.   They have provided extra hands and feet for our parades, and sacrificed many hours to help us get everything in order.  BTW, Dick and his granddaughter Stephany created that absolutely adorable Alpaca at the farm entrance to take your picture with!  The two of them also collaborated on surprising us with the amazing welcome sign just inside the gates.  We cannot thank Dick and his family enough for all of their support.

As promised, here are links to all the grand photos that were taken by our guests!  Great job everybody!
